T he Church of the Evangelists (Anglican) in Tottenham is pleased to announce the appointment of Rev. Eyad Ajji as the new incumbent for this parish. Reverend Ajji assumed his position in Ontario at the end of January 2021.
Born in Syria and educated primarily in Jordan, he was ordained as a Priest in the Diocese of Jerusalem and Middle East. He was appointed by the Archbishop to serve at the Arab Evangelical Episcopal Church of St. John the Baptist, in the north of Jordan in 2013.
He came to Canada in 2016 and after 2 years in the Diocese of Calgary he took up ministerial responsibilities in Prince Albert. There, he led Sunday Worship in each of his churches and also managed to find time to lead a weekly service at Victoria Hospital, Prince Albert, and a monthly service at Good Shepherd Villas for seniors. Reverend Ajji also maintained a monthly ministry at Shellbrook Hospital, and at the Penitentiary in Prince Albert. He was also active in promoting youth activities throughout the parish.
In a 2019 newspaper article about him, when asked why he had chosen to come to Canada, Father Ajji said:
“Because of the Syrian crisis, the future wasn’t obvious for us. If my children graduated from University, they wouldn’t get any jobs because they were foreigners. At that time, it was clear that we couldn’t visit our country because of the war in Syria. The idea came up that we should find another place to live peacefully. We applied to Canada, and the door was open widely at that time, and we came.”*
Reverend Ajji and his wife Faten Haddad have two children, a daughter Thyatra Ajji, who is now 20 and at University, and a son, Abdalla Ajji, aged 17.
